Has there ever been an Ultima tabletop rpg?

Many years ago, I fell in love with the Ultima game series. I played on PC, I played on NES and SNES; for a time, I even had an Ultima Online account.

Now, years later, as a tabletop gamer, I find myself curious if there had been an Ultima tabletop rpg. If yes, have any of you played it? Ae there quality conversions of Ultima into tabletop rpg systems available?

I, too, loved the Ultima games. In fact me and my brother made a quick and dirty homebrew system to emulate Ultima 7, but it wouldn't be anything worth sharing and that crumbled notebook is long lost.

I imagine a system that would be very very close would be GURPS, though. With some tweaking, it could do a fine job emulating the Ultima game's feel.

Aaron Allston was working on designing an official one in the late 80s or early 90s, but the project fell through. (I'm don't recall why, and the old version of Allston's web page appears to have vanished into the Stygian Abyss. Apparently a 'Savage Empire' game he designed did get a limited print run for Origins employees and his gaming group.)

Not that I heard of, but it would be a fantastic idea. Character generation would have to be based upon the "answer a series of questions" from Ultima IV through VII. Reagents from Ultima could also be used for casting spells, and the game world was defined enough to fill an RPG book. It should be set around the time of Ultima VII and Serpent's Isle, as Ultima VIII and IX do little more for the lore.

Given that the franchise is now long out of Lord British's hands, I suspect we've got zero chance of seeing something that resembles the original's tone and feel.

Is there an Ultima Wikia out there, though? Because a well-supported one could easily have enough information to build a detailed homebrew from.
