Halflings and two-handed swords

Mondrin

First Post
Since I cannot search, I will ask this question; even if it has been asked before.

The rules state that a creature may not use a weapon 2 sizes larger than itself. That is all fine and great but it is very limiting for people who wish to try playing a small race like the gnome or halfling. I'm assuming that someone has thought up a feat or something that would allow a small character to wield a large weapon.

Any comments?

Four possible solutions:
  • Use a Medium-sized martial weapon like a longsword, and wield it two-handed.
  • Spend an Exotic WP feat on a Medium-sized bastard sword, and wield it two-handed.
  • Get the Monkey Grip feat from S&F, which lets you use upsized weapons (at a penalty).
  • Use a downsized greatsword, designed specially for halflings and gnomes (2d4 damage).

Just two:

(1) The D&D3 design staff and playtesters worked long and hard to balance the races. I'm quite sure (both for this reason and from my own experience) that the halfling attack, AC, save, and skill bonuses, and the gnome ditto plus free cantrips, make up for their inability to swing a two-handed sword for 2d6+ damage.

(2) How in the name of Yondalla do you think a three-foot halfling is going to swing a five-and-a-half to six-and-a-half foot sword, anyway? What a goofy visual ...

Oh, and for the record, the Monkey Grip feat would allow a halfling to use a longsword one-handed, but would not help her to use a two-handed sword in any way. :p

If I used a downsized greatsword that did 2D4, would it be a medium martial weapon or an medium exotic weapon?

If it's exotic, why not just have the halfling use a two handed bastard sword?

the downsized 2d4 greatsword would be a longsword basicly, why invent a needless new weapon?. the only thing i hate about the smaller races is the speed issue.
