Half Human-Half Dragon:mammal?

First Post
Hi.

As you can see, I have a strange question: do you think that a half-human/half-dragon is a mammal or a reptilian?

Does she make eggs?

By the RAW I would go with the "she's a reptilian" answer, but it would be kinda weird.

Any opinion?

By the RAW, she is a "Dragon (Augmented Humanoid)". Thus she is "Dragon" and NOT "Reptilian". Reptilian subtype is used only for humanoids. By the rule, lizards are not "Reptilian".

Regarding their biological categorization, I guess there will be no answer. Dragon is a purely fantasy being. She may make eggs, or may not.

Well, I used the term "reptilian" only becasue Dragons are defined as "reptilike creatures".

It's probably from other fantasy novels I've read... but I've always seen dragons as mammals. Specific mammals, different than normal, and egg laying (there are a couple in real life)... but not reptilian.

I also think of dragons and half-dragons as lizard-like, if not actually lizards. Dragons are to lizards as humans are to monkeys. Anyway, the Draconomicon might have a more interesting take on it.

I give them both, since they are both human (or whatever) and dragon.

Carry to term, then birth an egg. Egg can then be attended, hatched, usual bird/reptile stuff. A lone human birthing an egg would not know how to care for it, so both parents are required for these atypical spawns.

That's actually the way I explain the birth of the half dragon...dragon father, human mother.

A half dragon giving birth would depend on the father's, um, type...

Dragons are warm-blooded creatures somewhere between a cat and a reptile in characteristics. They do indeed lay eggs.

Edit: as a half-dragon has the dragon type, I would say it too lays eggs.

Warning: do not confuse reptile with reptilian, nor mammal with mammalian.

I'd say a half-dragon/half-human (or half-dwarf, -elf, -gnome, -halfling...) is both mammalian and reptilian, as the crossbreed will have traits of both.

I'd say, DM's whim. Note that D&D has a longstanding, glorious tradition of fantasy females with scaly boobs, so...

I'll conclude by providing a photograph of the Silver Sorcerer, a female half-dragon elf sorcerer D&D miniature:

If you look more closely, you'll see that she's breasted.

Facts:
1. Half-dragons are mammals.
2. Half-dragons fight ALL the time.
3. The purpose of the half-dragon is to flip out and kill people.

(as for my answer, it is "whatever fits better". I think it can go either way, since they're half-dragons. They may get the way they bear children from their dragon-half or their whatevertheyarebesidesdragon-half)
