Good PHB Feats for Clerics

Well, I have 2 clerics I'm working on (pre-generated characters for a convention):

Gerald the Righteous: LG Human Cleric of St. Cuthbert 14. Domains: Law, Protection.
Urt: LG Half-Orc Cleric of Heironeous. Domains: Law, War.

Gerald is a protector, Urt a more melee-focused one (as you probably guessed from their domains)

There is a strong argument for not taking combat casting. It is only +4 when casting defensively. If you take Skill Focus (concentration) you get +3 to the same skill all of the time.

Just something to think about.

If these are pre gens then I would take a look at the adventure and find feats that they will be able to get a lot of use out of.

I'm not a fan of CC. Lots of better choices IMO:

Improved Init
Scribe Scroll
Weapon Focus
Power Attack (if you melee a lot, gets better once you get Divine Power and Righteous Might)
Spell Penetration (higher levels)
Craft Wonderous Item (depending on your DM's allowance of item crafting)

The thing with CC is that it gets less useful as you advance in level.

I agree about ditching combat casting. As stated, skill focus (concentraion) is much better if you really want a concentration type feat.

For a melee type cleric you will want power attack. Assuming you will be making your self large and using self buffs to your attack rolls yo might as well use a two handed weapon and pwer attack to truly punish the infidels.

Scribe scroll is a hugely useful feat as scrolls account for some of the most cost effective consumption magic items in the game.

Are we starting with level 1 here?

Level 14. Also, probably should have stated that it's a Dungeon Crawl. I was looking through the list of Feats, and what do people think of Spell Focus (abjuration) for the protection cleric?

Improved Initiative.

Metamagics

Item Creation

Dodge chain,

Power attack chain

Ranged attack feats chain

Extra Turning is nice, particularly if you have other source feats that use turning attempts. Not running out of power is good.

Improved Turning is OK

Weapon Focus, Improved Crit

Skill focus diplomacy, max it out and become the party face

Skill focus concentration (stacks with combat casting).

Save boosting feats.

Plenty of options in the core.

Just out of curiosity, if you're statting the characters, what's wrong with, say, one splatbook feat per character. There are a couple of divine feats that would go particularly well with the two guys.
