D&D 5E Good low level mystery adventures

Hi

I'm looking for some ideas on using (pre made) or creating a good low level mystery adventure that would help familiarize the PCs with the city that will serve as their home base for part.net of the campaign

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Watch any scooby doo episode.

Seriously.

Take that plot, recast and reset it in your campaign. Drop the same clues in the same spots in the same fashion.

For detailed reference, the scoobydoo wikia is incredible.

I know this seems ridiculous but between scooby doo and blues clues, that's essentially every good mystery you'd ever want. Already written for consumer audiences and everything.

Never thought of Scooby-Doo, good idea

I was thinking of the old module The Assassin's Knot. Maybe re-skin it to 5e and add more town/city to flavor. It is also the same place used in 1-2 Dungeon adventures.

I need to figure out a way to explain Batman and Robin and the Harlem Globetrotters for the episodes I'm thinking I'd use ;)

Batman & Robin are just Sherlock & Watson so that's easier to convert.

The Harlem Globetrotters, obviously, fit in just as they are, regardless of setting or circumstances.

Thanks for the referral. I've been adapting a short story to an adventure format. It's a murder mystery. I have become concerned that the adventure is "too talky" and will require too much prep. Modules like The Sunless Citadel appear to get right to the action, and that minimal description style seems to work better. I'll pick up The Assassin's Knot and read through it to see how to pull off a mystery.

The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh is a good place to start, but might need more to be a real mystery.

Against the Cult of the Reptile God comes off as a mystery in the beginning.

The Assassin's Knot is pretty good IMO, but not everyone will agree.

I second The Assassin's Knot.

Actually, one of my motivations in penning The Beast of Graenseskov was the dearth of quality mystery adventures for D&D. I did a lot of things in that adventure to make a really robust mystery that could actually survive contact with the PCs (at least for a little while).

Nice. I may purchase The Beast of Graenseskov, too.

Edited for update: I bought The Beast of Graenseskov last night and am reading through it.
