First Post
I just got into Star Wars RPG with SAGA, and wondered if there are any must have d6 books that I should pick up for the fluff/background/cool ideas?

Just a personal pet peeve. Its not "SAGA". Its "Star Wars Saga". "SAGA" (all caps) was a card based RPG used by TSR/WotC for Dragonlance The Fifth Age and for the Marvel Superheroes RPG.

That is all. You may now continue your discussion.

Most of the WEG stuff has been incorporated into other EU sources and the rest is of course non-canon. So although they are good books, I'm going to say, "Not very many." The Imperial sourcebook is kind of interesting if you want a lot of detail in that area.

Other than that, I would definitely go with the Essential guides.

Galaxy Guide #9: Fragments from the Rim

This is probably one of the best background/fluff sourcebooks that WEG ever put out, and it covers a wide gamut of material, from Rebels to Imperials to Bounty Hunters to slang to drinks to media and even some Force-stuff thrown into the mix.

Some other WEG books that are good for fluff (but are a bit more focused) are:
Galaxy Guide #10: Bounty Hunters
Pirates and Privateers
Platt's Guide to Smuggling
Rebel Alliance Sourcebook
Imperial Sourcebook
Galaxy Guide #11: Criminal Organizations
Galaxy Guide #8: Scouts
Galaxy Guide #6: Tramp Freighters (not only smugglers, but also an entire sector to base a campaign around)
Stock Ships (has a quite a few freighter designs not yet redone for SWSE, and includes floorplans for all the ships in the book)
Lords of the Expanse (covers the Tapani Region, which is a great setting for groups that prefer intrigue over combat)

Bear in mind that most of the WEG stuff is going to only cover the Rebellion Era and the EU stuff that happens between then and the New Jedi Order.

Thanks Donovan. Looks like others don't think much of the WEG material?

Well, I played a lot of D6 Star Wars but the nature of licensed game systems is that you don't need anything other than the core rule book if you have a working knowledge of the source material. And with regard to the original Star Wars trilogy, pretty much everybody (every Sci-Fi geek, anyhow) had that knowledge.

In the 5+ years that my friends and I played D6 Star Wars, I think only one of us ever bought any of the setting sourcebooks (and, as I recall, those rarely got used for anything other than inspiration). The one sourcebook that I can recall being used extensively was an adventure — Tatooine Manhunt. And that was modified heavily in actual play.

Yeah. This is the best one out there.
