Goliath miniatures - size

First Post
I browsed eBay and saw a few "goliath" miniatures. I know "in game" they are on the large size of Medium, meaning 7-8 feet tall. At least in 3.5E they are that size.

However, I cannot tell from the scale of these miniature pictures if the actual goliath miniatures are taller size-wise than other size Medium figures? And, are these all male goliaths? I ask because I am a bit of a stickler for mini size, and would hate to see somebody playing an 8 foot tall goliath, but have a size Medium miniature that is the same height as the 5'0" to 5'6" tall humans in the group... Thanks

Well, a good way to roughly judge the size of a mini is to remember that the bases of a medium D&D Mini always is 25mm.
(If you're really into it you can resize a couple of pictures until their bases are the same size and then look at them side by side.)

The Deathknell goliath is a rather big ugly thing, and the new one looked rather big in the package, and less ugly.

The goliath barbarian in the latest Primal Heroes set is in a crouching strike and is as tall as the Half-Giant mini from Giants of Legend who's standing tall.

The cleric of Kavaki isn't really all that big, but the other Goliath (The one with the axe) is pretty big, though not as large as the above barbarian.

All in all, they're pretty representative of the size.

There are no female Goliath minis at this time.

it's not the bases I'm concerned about. I have two "ghoul" D&D miniatures on the 25mm size Medium base. However, if you compared the two ghouls, one is so much bigger as a miniature than the other. One ghoul on a medium base is about 3.1cm tall (from top of base to top of head) and is kind of scrawny. The other ghoul, also on a medium base, is slouched over and is still 3.6cm tall and is built like an NFL linebacker, and that is also from the top of the base to the top of its head. The size difference is gigantic when you figure that the bigger ghoul would like be at least 4.6cm tall if it was standing upright - the smaller ghoul is about 2/3 the height of the bigger one. It's like comparing a 7 foot tall NBA star to a 4'7" 12 year old.

That was my concern - I would get a "goliath" miniature, but it would look puny next to the human rogue miniature because of how they were designed.

The goliath cleric of kovaki is pretty small compared to the other two. He looks about human-sized, although he's making up for his "vertical challenge" with a fairly intimidating two-handed club.

The other goliath figures are noticeably larger than the typical human DDM figure.

As a side-note, check out the Stonechild figure from the Dragonseye set. I've found that it makes an excellent goliath figure... and it's in fact what our goliath warden uses. It's a good size comparison with the other two (non-kovaki) goliath figures, it's a good sculpt (for an early set), and the coloration is excellent for a goliath.
