Gift for gamer dad

One of the guys in our gaming group is about to become a dad, and we were wondering what to give him to celebrate his new status that would be baby-safe. The mother is not an RPGer, but she's not opposed to it (and she's quite an avid board gamer and Sim player). She did say that she has enough baby clothes, though.

Any suggestions?

A friend of mine got his kid most of the plush dice. Perhaps you could get him the tube of plush dice that Paizo sells?

Being as I'm about to be a father myself (wife, who is a gamer, is due June 10), and I'm a gamer, a cute baby gift might be the sets of huge stuffed dice. That way, while funny and potentially charming to the father, the baby can actually play with them. Just a thought.

Not dice, get the plush Cthulhu.

Practical gifts are target gift cards as they will have lots of unanticipated material needs (diapers, formula, wipes, changing pads, etc.).

"What to expect" and "baby whisperer" books are pretty good references if they don't already have them, although he should read them before the baby comes while he still has time and energy to do so.

A lot of plush stuff is not actually baby safe, most is ages 3+. I haven't checked the stuff mentioned in this thread, but make sure you do before you give it as a gift. Also, don't limit yourself to newborn gifts, as it will be no time at all before the baby is 6mon, then 9, then 1 year, etc. I personally think that anything up to 12 mon. is suitable as a 'baby' gift.

Additionally, your thread title indicates you want a gift for the Dad (and/or Mom), but the thread seems to focus on gifts for the little one. There are numerous gifts for new parents, but perhaps it's not too late to custom-make something, such as a T-shirt or coffee mug?
