Giant Ravens

In Frostburn, there is a giant raven monster entry. In the details it discusses about how they can be used in combat as mounts. It goes on to list their carrying capacity. At the end of that paragraph, it states that a giant raven cannot fly with a heavy load. What this seems to imply, is that a giant raven can fly with a medium load. Now, unless I'm mistaken, I was under the impression that a creature could only fly with a light load. Is this true? Is it something from a previous edition? Am I just crazy? I've checked through my books and my google-fu has failed me.

I didn't see anything in the DMG section on flying that specifies an encumbrance limit on all flying creatures. The Rules Compendium has this to say:

Rules Compendium pg. 91 said:
Fly
A creature that has a natural fly speed can move through the air at the noted speed. All fly speeds include a parenthetical note indicating maneuverability (see Maneuverability). A creature can run while flying in a straight line (see Run, page 93).

Most creatures can’t fly if carrying a medium or heavy load. A creature’s description takes precedence over these general rules.

The best 3PP material for all things flying and aerial combat, I've been using Geek Industry Complex Companions of the Firmament - in it all the Pathfinder rules are included, plus fixes for odd rules, and a bunch of new ones. One of the more interesting aspects is that all the flying creatures from the first 3 Bestiaries have individual sheets that provide all aerial movement abilities, speed, turning capacity, load capacity making managing complicated aerial battles where all the PCs and opponents are in the air far easier to manage.

I purchased it after reading Endzeitgeist's rave review of this product - it was #2 on his list of Top 20 PF products of 2013.

In real life, most birds can carry up to about 1/4 of their weight and still remain air born.

I saw something about eagles and other birds of prey the other night.
