As mentioned a few pages back, I think you could go with Al-Andalus (Muslim-ruled part of southern Europe) as a template. My memories are a bit vague at this point, but Calimshan/Calimport didn't strike me as purely Islamic, but rather a mixture of influences.

Geopolitical, Calishman is a bit more Medieval Byzantine than anything Islamic, but it is definitely the place for 1001 Arabian Night style fiction in Greenwoods original fan-fiction megasetting, same as Narnia being over on the Inland Sea.
