While that's true, for some reason I like it a lot more than the costume used in the last three movies. (Don't get me wrong, I liked that one, too, just not as much.) It somehow looks... I dunno. More real. Less like a movie studio creation. (Comparatively speaking only, of course.)

The mask will make or break it, but right now, I'm liking it.

(I'm less crazy about the mechanical web-shooters. I know they're more accurate to the comic, but I prefer the organic ones for a variety of reasons. Still, that's hardly a deal-breaker.)

I'm the opposite, I think the mechanical ones are important because they illustrate a big part of the character. Peter's not just smart, he's a genius and the web shooters help show that without beating you over the head or explicitly stating it.

Arguably he is, but in a different field - spideys web fluid is arguably one of the most inspired and flexible creations in marveldom. Created while he was still a teen too!

Sure sounds like genius to me in the field of chemistry.

The biggest issue I had with the organic ones is that they all but completely removed the possibility of the most dramatic parts of some of Spidey's fights - the part where his shooters are depleted and his has to scramble around trying to reload them while fighting the bad guy without his (most?) iconic power.

I'm sure a good writer could script something in even if they were organic, but it wouldn't feel as right.

That reminds me of an Avengers annual where Beast was in on an autopsy of someone the team thought was the Hulk, and he remarked about how inadequate he felt because Reed and Tony were also in on the task.
