D&D 4E Fire Resistance in 4e

Yesterday the party wanted a ritual of fire resistance cast on them before they entered a fight with salamanders. Sure, good idea, but we searched the compendium and didn't see anything that would help. I ended up adapting an 8th level ritual from the Book of Rituals that was for poison, but i changed it to fire. Did we miss something? How do you get DR 5 against fire in 4e at paragon level?

Rituals are designed to mainly benefit out of combat stuff.
I assume the "book of rituals" is a third party book?

There are powers that can do that kind of thing, but there are very few utility buffs like in previous edition.

Yeah, it's from Goodman Games, 300 rituals back to back. It is fantastic.

But we were still surprised that there was a not an official ritual of protection in the vein of what they needed. Without fire resistance they would not have even dared enter that level of the dungeon, it was filled with fire and lava and all kinds of dangers. But i guess a potion would have sufficed just as well. thanks for the feedback.

I think WoTC tries to avoid rituals that affect combat mechanics. Given the geometric wealth curve, a 'resistance' ritual that's balanced at paragon tier would be essentially free at epic tier. Then you have the odd situation of the party spending two hours on rituals to buff themselves before entering a fight.

That said, in this situation, I might have a custom ritual as a plot device, and perhaps limited it with a unique ritual focus that had limited uses. You could make obtaining the focus a quest of its own.

you can as well use the brew potion ritual to get a resistance potion... so you can easily allow such a ritual. It will burn time and resources... and it should mainly give a bonus to endurance checks to not suffer ill effects from the terrible heat (like endure elements in 3.5, not 3.0).
