Female Mini's

Djeta Thernadier

First Post
A small gripe from a new-ish player...
And no , I'm not a hardcore feminist or anything...it's just a general annoyance...And I don't want to start any arguments...

Can someone tell me WHY all the female miniatures look like :
A). The erotic fantasies of a sex starved teenage boy
B). Really cliché anime characters with wings
C). Lesbian bikers from another planet
or
D).Trying way too hard to be "strong, powerful women" (i.e.. they are all designed as carrying about 45 weapons at a time and have scary armor and fangs)

Now, I mean NO offense to sex starved teens, winged anime characters and their fans, lesbians of any sort from any place or strong, powerful warrior women. All of these people are awesome. None at all. But here's my gripe :

My D&D character is none of the above. She's an average sized young woman (1/2 elf who looks mostly human) , who relies mainly on spells, and usually only carries a rapier. She has a crossbow too, but she's usually only carrying one weapon. She doesn't have wings, she's not scantily clad, her hair isn't constantly blowing in the wind (that seems to be a common theme too), she's average looking, not muscular and she doesn't frequently point her hand towards the heavens to cast her spells.

I checked several mini's sites online and can't really find one that feels right to me. I have a few I use now, that I got a local gaming store, but they really aren't it either. Another thing I've done, is check "collectibles" stores that sell pewter fantasy knick knacks , have found a lot of great, really nicely detailed figures there for NPCs, Monsters etc. But not a lot of good, female , normal looking characters.

What's a non- scantily clad, wingless, scrawny, half elf bard/sorcerer girl to do?
(aside from take up fashioning my own mini's out of melted pewter or play-doh)

Any suggestions?

Cool. Thanks. The first bard is one of the ones I use now, actually. Hadn't stumbled across that last bard yet. Think I might have to order one of those ;) There's hope yet.

Maybe a little darker than what your after but this one might work too. The Wanted notice could just as easily be a scroll.

most of mine don't look that way either.

of my grenadier females boxed sets, T$R classes boxed sets, Heritage, Ral Partha, Superior, etc...

only the monster like Succubi or serving wenches;) or slave girls have that look. but they are few and far between.

The chainmail and old wotc line had a number of female figures that were less than risque, and quite well done. Reaper has a number of options, but I would recomend you avoid Confrontation minatures if you do not like the over the top chainmail bikini on overstylized unrealistic barbie dolls porportioned female stereotype. The Minatures are beautiful, and very stylish, but as my girlfriend said as she was painting the Red Lioness, how can she fight with her Boobs and Ass sticking out.
