Elvis Impersonator phrases...

Hypersmurf

Moderatarrrrh...
Our DM is looking at starting an alternate humorous campaign - modern setting, but D&D rules (rather than d20 Modern, for example).

I'm thinking about playing a Gnomish Bard, as an Elvis-impersonator televangelist.

My problem is that I'm not actually that well-up on my Elvivia.

Does anyone have a link to a "So you wanna impersonate Elvis?" walkthrough? Or, alternatively, can fans of Elvis (or, even more pertinent, fans of Elvis impersonators) list some of the must-have catch-phrases?

Can you do the voice? Elvis has to be done with the voice first....you will also have to stand up to do the hip movements...those are very important....

The one I hear the most is "Thank you very much."

And don't forget "Elvis has left the building." (Said by someone else when your bard leaves a performance venue.)

There are some quotations by Elvis at the IMDB. The last quotation is especially telling:

"I want to entertain people. That's my whole life. To my last breath."

"Take care of the fans and they will sure as hell take care of you."

"I don't know anything about music. In my line you don't have to."

There are some web sites with tips about impersonating Elvis:

http://www.ia.wvu.edu/~magazine/fall98/elvis.html

http://news.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=193&id=843502003

And, of course ,there are books on the subject:

I, Elvis: Confessions of a Counterfeit King

And it looks like NPR (the US' National Public Radiio) did a spot on this very topic back on March 3, 2001. I can't find a direct link on the NPR site (yet), but there is a little bit of a teaser online. I think you can listen to it here. This is an interview with an Elvis impersonator who wrote a book; the blurb says, "Mr. Marino shares a lesson or two with Scott [the interviewer]" so it may help a bit.

Good luck!

Don't forget to watch the Bruce Campbell movie Bubba Ho-Tep for some additional pointers. And after watching it, watch it again with the commentary by the King himself!

“Don’t be cruel”

Also, don’t forget to buy your gnome some blue suede shoes.

I’d also see if the DM would allow the renaming of a few spells. Make the bad guys suffer when you cast 'Elvis’s Irresistible Side Burns' on them.

Or worse, mirror image becomes 'Summon Elvi'. (Look mom, a quartet!)

For bonus points, do Elvis impersonating Captain Kirk…

"Don’t…"

"Be…"

"Cruel!!!"
