Elven weapons

Hi !

What do you think of changing “Weapon Proficiency” by Weapon Familiarity” for elven...

"Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longsword, rapier, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats."

"Weapon Familiarity : You can treat all the exotic weapons associated with your race as martial weapons rather than as exotic weapons. A weapon is treated as being associated with a race if the race's name appears as part of the weapons name, such as the elven lightblade/thinblade/courtblade and elvencraft bow."

The first helps only non-martial characters, the second helps only martial characters...

...so overall I think it could either be a change for better or for worse, depending on who's in your PC group :D

You could also consider both at the same time. It does NOT make the Elf more powerful, because the second benefit kicks in only when the first benefit does nothing.

I alwayse thought it would be neet if this

"Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longsword, rapier, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats."

added a +1 attack (maybe damage) to these weapons if your already proficent with the weapon via class.

For my next campaign idea...

Elves: Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the Glaive, Short Sword, Longbow (including Composite Longbow), and Shortbow (including Composite Shortbow) as bonus feats.

We (as in my group) give Weapon Familiarity to all characters simply because we think it's a bit silly that a goliath barbarian (for example) needs to spend a feat to know how to use the goliath great hammer.

We did the same with a few armors, but not many.

One aspect of the difference between the elves' weapon proficiency and the dwarves' weapon familiarity is whom it's useful for. The free weapon proficiencies are useful for low-level wizards, whereas familiarity is useful for fighters. Coincidentally, elves have wizard as their favored class, and dwarves have fighter.

If I'm using Simple/Martial/Exotic Weapons...

Racial Weapon Familiarity: If your race has a weapon specifically tied to, you may treat it in the following ways:

if Exotic, as a martial weapon,
if Martial, as a simple weapon,
if Simple you are automatically proficient in it's use

for determining proficiency.

If I'm using weapons groups, then I simply give what's appropriate.
