A new feat from PHB2, which among other things lets you "alter the type of damage [a spell] deals to a single type of your choice." Not energy type, but damage type! Using a fireball as an example, you could change the damage to force, no resistance and strikes incorporeal or ethereal foes, or dessication damage from Sandstorm- also no resistance, and dehydrates targets. In theory, you could even make positive energy fireballs which heal allies, or vile damage fireballs which cannot be healed. Wow!

What else can you do with this open invitation for abuse?

Later in the feat, when referring to the fact taht you can use a different substitution each time, it says tha tyou can use "the same or different energy type" as before. If the second substitution is the same energy type, the first must also be an energy type. If the second substitution is a different energy type, that also means that the first was an energy type. Thus, this substitution can only be done with an energy type, which are cold, fire, acid, sonic, and electricity.

See DM_Matt for a overall look, but one important thing: Changing to positive energy doesn't make a spell a healing spell. That's, for whatever reason, not a feature of the energy type, but of the specific spell. There are even monsters that deal positive energy damage (which doesn't heal their victims)

Why not "force" energy? Is there a list somewhere of energy types?
