Earth Compared to Eberron Map

First Post
Hi all. A few interesting threads about the size of Eberron:

http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=221009

(The second one is more about under population issues but goes a lot into sizes also)

Basically, many have issues with the vast size of the continents – Khorvaire in particular – which Keith Baker says he divides by a factor of 10 in his campaigns. I personally don’t.

So I decided to overlay Eberron with our Earth so as to get a picture of the continental sizes. Remember Eberron is smaller than Earth (more like Mars). I think it’s a fairly accurate comparison.

Interesting to note that the “small island” of Lorghalan off the coast of Q’Barra in the Lhazaar Principalities (ECS p.186) is the same size as the UK! Thus highlighting the previous posts about the under-mapping (which is ok) on Eberron/Khoravire maps.

The map is here:

Enjoy.

I use the sizes as they are. Eberron is susposed to a game world were anything can exist. I don't know about you guys- but there is a LOT of stuff out there to use. I go so far as to even occationally "over size" rivers and the such. I found the Scion Sound / River and the white Bridge to be much more amazing and impressive being over 25 miles long than the few 100 yards suggested in the books.

Course that's just me and everyone may create / uncreate their world as they wish.

The equatorial diameter of the Earth (distance from one side of the Earth to the other at the equator) is about 7,926 miles.

The circumference of the earth (distance around the earth) at the equator is 24,902 miles.

Using the map on the inside cover, Eberron is 16,500 miles in circumference, which translates to 5,220 miles diameter.

Thus Earth is larger than Eberron.

As far as the projection goes they both use the same projection, a flattened map: the equatorial line is straight not curved.

The broken bridge over Scion Sound is a perfect example of the ludicrous disproportions of the Khorvaire maps – that’s one mother f*%#ing long bridge!

I personally like the artist's mistake of oversizing Khorvaire - it makes the outer regions seem more underpopulated and wild and the five nations more like little empires.

But it's still great and awesome

and I like how spread out the world's cities are. I prefer open country/forest adventures over cities.
