Dwarf Bear cavalry is certainly a thing in my homebrew.

But "cuddletime"? Ye gads, we dwarves recruit and train bears the old fashioned way - trap 'em, train em, and give em snacks of goblin captives. Ye don't want these things domesticated - ye want killers.

I can seen the headline:
"Dwarven cavalry devoured by their own mounts in stunning lack of understanding animal behavior..."

In a fantasy setting I don't really have a problem with bear cavalry. Wait, is the bear riding a horse or is someone riding the bear? Either way, I'm in. Practically speaking, even if a bear could be ridden, the cost of feeding and caring for a maul of bears would be ridiculously expensive in terms of food and labor. A hero riding a bear? Sure.

If an army (such as Hannibal's) can field elephants, bears aren't out of the realm of possibility. Besides, it's fantasy. Just be glad they don't have Bulette cavalry - or are riding purple worms ala Dune.
