Drow and weapon proficiency

hey there,

I remember reading somewhere that drow are not automaticly proficient with longsword or rapier but with other weapons. Does anyone know what (melee and ranged) weapons and what book mentions this rule.............? I am sure I read it somewhere.......

The Monster Manual entry for Elves mentions it, and states that Drow do not get the usual elven weapon proficiencies. This is because Drow usually dwell in the Underdark, where Longswords and Longbows aren't as useful in cramped spaces.

I can't find the Drow replacement for melee right now, but I know Drow usually use the Handcrossbow instead of the Longbow, so they might have an automatic proficiency in it.

I give my drow automatic proficiency in hand crossbow and shortsword.

According to the FRCS, drow get hand crossbow, light crossbow, and either rapier or shortsword.

In MonteCook's Queen of Lies they get: rapier or shortsword, hand crossbow or repeating crossbow
