D&D 5E dream-like spell for elves?

Hi folks,

So in 5e, elves are immune to the dream spell. I'm wondering if there exists in any of the previous editions of D&D a spell similar to dream that actually works on elves.

Basically, I've got an eladrin PC in my game, and I want to have a member of her family send a message via a vision or some such thing, but I cant use dream, and there doesn't seem to be anything else that might do the trick in the PHB, so I'm wondering what other options I might have.

I know I could just say it happens anyway, since I'm the DM, but I'd like to see if there's an actual spell (or magic item even) that'll make it a bit more "legit", if you know what I mean.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Maybe a modified version of the Sending spell that allows the recipient to visualize the Sender (as well as increasing the word cap a bit)?

Magic Mouth, if they can somehow deliver a letter.
Gate would work too.
If you want to allow psionic powers, (or even powers rebranded as spells) Remote Viewing is ideal for such a thing. It's basically Scry with the option to talk or cast spells into the pool and have them come out the other end.

Yeah, something like that would be perfect. I want it to be more like a vision than a direct message.

The crystal ball of telepathy in the DMG looks pretty good. You can cast suggestion through it. The trouble is a) the eladrin PC will have advantage on her save against suggestion since it's a charm spell, and b) elves don't generally like to compel each other to do things, since they value individual freedom so much.

In this instance, though, they may feel differently, because the PC in question is technically still a child. She ran away from home at the tender age of thirty, and no doubt her aristocratic parents have been trying to track her down ever since. She recently bumped into her wicked older brother, who is a member of an elven racial supremacist group, and he unsuccessfully tried to get her to go back home with him.

So I'm trying to figure out what her parents - and brother - would do next. At first, I thought maybe the mother could send some kind of vision to her daughter, pleading with her to come home. But elves don't dream and can't be subjected to that kind of magic, it would seem. I'm thinking the brother might lie and tell her parents she's been kidnapped by the other PCs, who've brainwashed her into thinking she's one of them. That might prompt the parents into mounting a "rescue" mission that would lead to the deaths of the other PCs ... some of whom are half-elven 'abominations' (in the eyes of the racial supremacists).

Anyone got any suggestions, if you'll pardon the pun? ;)
