Dragons by terrain - are they any for savannah/plains?

For the evil dragons, reds live in the mountains, blacks live in swamps, whites live in the arctic, greens live in the forest, while blues live in the desert.

Are there any dragons for territories like the plains like the American mid-west? Or, vast dry and hot savannahs like in Africa?

If desert is close enough for you, the Brown Dragon coming out in Draconomincon could suit your needs quite well.

I like brown dragons from the old days, but blues are also desert dragons...

wasn't sure if a brown or a blue could fit into an arid savannah-like regions, though, or if it has to be truly desert like the Sahara Desert

Well technically now in 4e, Blue are costal and Brown are desert.

Hmm... Well if you decide that a Brown can burrow through just normal ground and not just dunes then I think it could work fine.

Yep. A lot of people appear to have missed it, but blues aren't desert dwellers anymore.

Those suits at WOTC can say whatever they want...Blues will always be a desert dragon to me.

It is interesting that the appearance of the blue dragon seems to be heavily influenced by lizards that live in desert conditions, especially the heavy spined tail (which they cannont use as a weapon in 4E)

Personally I'd use reds (roosting in highest available locale), or blues. I prefer a limited dragon palette and don't like confining dragon types to very specific terrain. Mostly I only use reds & blacks, with occasional whites, greens and rarely blues.

As others have said:

Black - swamp
Blue - coastal
Brown - desert
Green - forest
Red - mountains
White - cold

So what you want is a dragon tied to a "plains" terrain. Since "plains" tend to be where the humanoids are, the next question is what's closer to the plains? If you want plains like the African savannah, the closeness to arid regions make it a good hunting ground for brown dragons. If it's closer to a mountain range, a red can swoop down.
