D&D 5E Dragon's Breath and Damage Boosts

I have a couple of questions about how the Dragon's Breath spell works with enhancements like then dragon sorcerer's damage boost.

Do they apply to the cone granted by the spell?
If yes, do they also apply if the spell is cast on another character other than the caster?
Finally can a ranger's animal companion or warlock's familiar be commanded to use the ability?

No. No. Yes.

A caster can give dragon's breath to a familiar or an animal companion, but I think it would be up to the warlock/ranger to command the familiar/AC to use it (I am pretty surprised it didn't make either of those class's spell lists). I am not sure a normal familiar from find familiar would be able to use it, as they can't attack. Since a variant familiar is really just an hireling, they could probably use it.

A sorcerer could twin the spell, but unless the sorcerer casts it on him/herself, I don't think they could empower it, since the relevant wording is "When you roll damage for a spell", and for anything else (barring multiclassed sorcerer/warlocks or sorcerer/rangers), someone else is rolling damage.

For sorcerers, I suspect the divine soul sorcerer probably gets the most use out of this, since he/she has access to conjure celestial (and the Pegasus could use some additional offense).

So far the consensus seems to be any companion/familiar that can attack can breathe fire, but the verdict is still out if it counts as damage from a spell for red dragon sorcerers.

The sorcerer ability says it applies to "one damage roll of that spell." So, at most, you can apply it to a single blast, not to all of them.
