Dragon Daggers

Crothian

First Post
Dragon Daggers are magical daggers made eons ago by a Cult of Dragon worshipers. They created one dagger for each s[pecies (not just the twn in the MM). Each dagger represents the power of the Dragon it was crafted after. Each dagger is finely crafted to look like the dragon it is based off of with gems and precious metals used in the workmenship.

Here's the part I need help on. Definiong daggers based off of ever Dragon we can think of. I don't care what kind of dragon, I want daggers for them all. The Cult was a little obsesive.

Red: Dagger+1, Flaming
White: Dagger +1, Frost
Blue: Dagger +1, Shock
Black: Dagger +1, Acid

Those are the obvious ones.

If these Daggers are meant to be artifacts, they will need much more "power", I think... :)

Add Elemental Restistances. Maybe give a bonus roll to social rolls when encountering a dragon of the same type as the dagger. (perhaps a +2 to any kind of dragon, and a +4 to the special dragon)
Perhaps they should be made from Admantite, just for flavor (it won`t change much...)

They aren't meant to be artifacts. the power of the dragon was in refenerence to each other. Daggers based off of Dragon gods will be artifacts.

There's a subplot in my games that has been going on for a few campaigns where characters find and lose these daggers. If they can all be collected and brought to the right place they will open a door locked away a long time ago. Each dagger is a key and all of them are needed to open the door.

There are also metallic dragons and gem dragons, but the breath weapons are basically the one you already written for the "obvious" ones.

Gold - Fire
Bronze - Electricity
Silver - Frost
...

Amethyst
...

I should put my hands again on MM 2nd and 3rd Edition, and we could take a look also to the Dragonlance nexus... they really care of dragons!

Like I said this is based on an idea I had and it never got fleshed out. In sunless Citidel (i think that's what it was) there was a dagger that looked like a dragon and then I was inspired to have this huge plot about them that the PCs never had time to explore. Well, they did had time by they claim they didn't.

Do you have the Dragon Archive CD set?

If so, there's what's called a "series magic" set of daggers (as well as the originals of the Rings of Elemental Command, of which all copies are inferior). (Series magic is items that have their own individual powers, but by combining them, they gain new powers. Eg., Rod of Seven Parts, Arm of Valor (Ruins of Myth Drannor), and so on.)

Anyway, these daggers are simple daggers with a few powers. But touch two of the daggers together, and they combine to form a short sword, with a new power. Combine three daggers, and you have a long sword, with more powers. Combine four, and you have a bastard sword, with even more powers. And if you combine all five, you have a greatsword. With the power to open a gate to Tiamat's realm, allowing her to manifest an avatar on the Prime Material Plane......

How's that for a plot hook?

That's pretty cool idea, the only problem being there are probably over 50 of these daggers. I guees they could form into greatsword for a collasssal sized creature, but I'm not sure the PCs will be able to deal with that. :D
