D&D 5E Downtime Activity: Spellcrafting+

The money cost listed is in SP and not GP. It threw me off at first. Then, I realized I could make a new cantrip for 10gp and a 1st level spell for 50gp and 3 weeks.

There could be something about components added. Maybe an expensive component lowers the spell level or just drop a week or more creation time. The new chromatic orb is a cool spell for 1st level, but has a 50gp gem you need as a component which means that a starting mage should not have it. You also need to get around that part of most people handwaving components though and a lot of starting mages seem to have it.

You could also add rare creation components that add levels to the spell and modify basic spells. Perhaps a phoenix feather allows you to create a modified fireball that is a 5th level spell and deals +6 dice damage instead of just the 4 by boosting the 3rd level fireball. Maybe a frost giant eye allows you to make a fireball that deals cold damage instead. That one is kind of basic.

There is a lot of spells found online and in older books and such. Some/most are overpowered and should be looked at before allowing. I see the part about DM discretion.
