Dominate and Charm Monster Interaction

If a creature was dominated and told to kill a certain person then that said person charmed the creature that was dominated.... What would be the end result?

This happened recently in a game of mine but the creature made the save on charm so i didn't have to decide then.

This is my opinion only...I don't have any rules to quote to back this up.

Since dominate monster usurps the NPC's control and gives the caster control of their actions, I would rule that charm monster would be suppressed if the spell worked. i.e. the monster would be charmed, sure...but it would still be dominated by whoever cast the dominate monster spell. At best, I'd allow the charm spell to allow the dominated creature a new saving throw to resist the domination.

Hmm.. interesting turn of events...

well under dominate you'll find:

Subjects resist this control, and any subject forced to take actions against its nature receives a new saving throw with a +2 bonus.

So if the charm spell had succeeded, the subject would regard the charm-caster as a " trusted friend and ally". Consequently the domination spell is now forcing the subject to take action against its nature ( IMO told to kill your trusted friend and ally is against one's nature).
...Therefore i believe that the dominated person should re-roll the Domination save with the +2 as noted in the spell's description...

thats the conclusion i had came to after the night was over but when it happened I was at a loss for a moment.

Thanks for your quick reply

What everyone else said sounds right, with one caveat.

If the initial command to kill the charm caster allowed a second save against the domination spell, I would not grant a third one when the charm spell is cast.

I think what Udalrich means if the target of the kill command was already someone that the creature under the dominate wouldn't kill and would have received a saving throw for then a 3rd saving throw for Charm wouldn't have been appropriate.

I could be misunderstanding that though

IMO, the moment the charm takes effect, it interferes with the magic already in place... So even if the subject was an ally of the charm-caster beforehand, the spell is a "new" magical effect that is not necessarily related to the subject's "mundane" relationship with the charm-caster.
