Does anybody know where I can find a "stampede damage" mechanic? If the characters should succumb to a herd of stampeding cattle (let's say) how would damage like that be resolved? Has there been any official representation of this kind of damage in the rulebooks? Thanks!

I can't recall seeing such a mechanic, but I can point you in a couple directions. First do you have deadlands d20? I haven't played it but since it's a "wild west" type setting you'd think they would have a mechanic for this sort of thing. In the absence of that the best alternative I can come up with is the Mob mechanic in DMG2. While I will say its very harsh and has been called names it seems appropriate to the situation.

Bison in the MM (pg.270) have a stampede ability. A herd of bison can run over anything of Large size or smaller in their way, dealing 1d12 pts of damage for every 5 bison in the herd (Ref DC 18 half).

Man, now there's a brainfart. Why didn't I think of looking there? You know now that I've been reminded I think I need to use more bison so I won't forget. Yes fiendish, half-dragon bison, with a size increase!! Mwa ha ha ha! I believe some unfortunate characters will encounter the FLYING STAMPEDE.

These bisons conjured by summon monster/Natures ally and used as stampede has been known to be as "Wall of Meat" spell.

Hah! The pseudonatural bison summoned by the alienist IMC are known as the 'wall of beef', later superseded by his 'wall of wolf' and recently 'wall of crocodile'. Considering the size of the last, just one croc makes a wall on its own.

The mob rules could be used, but I actually found them rather clunky and involved. The zone rules from Iron Heroes make for a much better model IMO. I used them for an encounter that appears here on www.iron-league.com. That used dire boars. The distinction is that the boars must make an attack to deal damage, which I liked better than the bison "autodamage" methodology. Though I must concur that it works fine if you want to just batter your PCs. :]

IMC the group consisted of several druids and arcane spellcaster (9 PCs)... and at least 5 of them were summoning :D
