D&D 3E/3.5 Do Synergy Bonuses no longer stack in 3.5?

First Post
first off, Synergy bonuses stacked in 3.0, didnt they?

second, i checked out the glossary under "stack" in the 3.5 PHB, and it only mentions Dodge bonuses and Circumstance bonuses stacking.

i dont have the new DMG, is it in there that it says Synergy bonuses stack? or do they not stack anymore.

the only thing i can think of off the top of my head that this affects is the synergy to the Use Magic Device skill involving scrolls that comes from 5 ranks in Decipher Script and Spellcraft.

No, they didn't. "synergy" is a specific named bonus, and only Dodge bonuses are allowed to stack with themselves in 3.0.

That ought to answer your question right there.

They don't stack, and they never did.

It goes beyond that.

Actually, in 3.5, there is no longer any such thing as a 'synergy bonus'. Instead, skill synergy provides an unnamed bonus - so it does indeed stack.

Technically, as bonuses of the same name, they did not stack. But in pretty much all cases where there could be multiple instances of synergy bonuses, an exception was made. Just look at the SRD entry for Diplomacy:

Special: Charisma checks to influence NPCs are generally untrained Diplomacy checks.
If the character has 5 or more ranks in Bluff or Sense Motive, the character gets a +2 synergy bonus on Diplomacy checks. These bonuses stack.

hey, your right, i never does say "synergy bonus". it talks about skill synergy, and +2 bonuses...but not synergy bonuses.
