Dispelling Silence?

This might be a silly question, but I've hit the wall here.

What counters silence?

I don't mean counterspell. I mean, if I'm a spellcaster and I've been silenced, what spell do I cast to rid myself of that? There used to be a spell called Vocalize which got rid of silence only, but I don't see that anymore. I would hate to have to cast a Dispel Magic to get rid of one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Vocalize has been replaced with Silent Spell feat.

Without a prepared silent spell or one with no verbal component, Dispel Magic is about your best choice. I have a necromancer that plans to prepare a silent chill touch spell for just such a predicament, because you can cast this spell and use it over and over again.

Silent Dispel Magic to remove the silence. Or a spell that will hurt clerics and bards (like a Silent Silence... )

Echo Screen... er wait sorry... I've been playing too much FF X, though you'd think there should be something that counters it. Like haste & slow, there should be some type of 'loud' spell, lame as it might sound.

The alternative bard by Monte Cook has a spellsong that dispels the Silence spell.

Of course, a Dispel Magic spell cast outside the silenced area or a Silent Dispel Magic spell would counter it.

Thanks for the response.

As you can see in my other question here, I'm looking at preparing a Silent Dispel Magic for my knowledge-domain cleric, in case he is ever silenced.

Although I could prepare another spell as Silent, I really don't want to be silenced, so I can try to cure members of the party.

Unfortunately, this can possibly dispel a whole load of enchantments he might have on himself, which is something I'm trying to avoid.

Maybe I'll write up a "Vocalize" spell and use that instead. With the proper research, of course

IIRC, Song & Silence has a a second-level bard spell called Joyful Noise. It has only somatic components, and basically suppresses magical silence within 10' of the bard.

With Dispel Magic, one of the options is to target a spell effect. rather than targetting yourself, just target the silence. Either you'll get it or you won't, but either way your own personal spells will stay up.
