Dispell a necrotic cyst?

Zen

First Post
So if a person is unfortuante enough to have a necrotic cyst generated in them, would a Dispel Magic remove said cyst? The spell decsription gives the odds for surgical removal, but says nothing about Dispel Magic. I know the effect is instananeous, but this seems different than, say, flesh to stone.

SRD Description of Dispel Magic said:
Note: The effect of a spell with an instantaneous duration can’t be dispelled, because the magical effect is already over before the dispel magic can take effect.

If the effect is listed as instantaneous, then it doesn't need to say anything different. It's no different than flesh to stone in this regard. Now, if the necrotic cyst effect says that remove curse is effective against at any point, then a greater dispel magic has a chance to remove it.

Libris Mortis.

The spell chapter, under "n"

I don't believe you can dispel it unless you prepared to counter it when it was actually cast, much like you cannot dispel the damage a fireball or magic missle deals you. I believe you could house rule that the heal spell (or other varoius problem removing spells) heals necrotic cysts, or any character could research a spell that removes it, but it seems that by the RAW a heal check is the only way to remove it.

I guess it actually gives a *possible* reason for taking the heal skill.

Thanks!

I thought as much, but wanted to be certain.

Also, I will be more careful with page numbers and such when working from a non-core book.
