Dimensional Anchor vs. Blasphemy et al

Dimensional Anchor states that "Any creature or object struck is covered with a field that completely blocks bodily extradimensional travel. Forms of movement barred by the dimensional anchor include astral projection, blink, dimension door, ethereal jaunt, etherealness, gate, maze, plane shift, shadow walk, teleport, and similar spell-like or psionic abilities. It prevents the use of a gate or teleportation circle for the duration of the spell."

Can an extraplanar being/outsider cast this on themselves (or have a friend cast it on them) to prevent being dismissed back to their plane by such spells as Unholy Word, Blasphemy, Dismissal, etc.?

Due to the italicised text, I'd say that Dimension Anchor wins. The downside, of course, is that the creature cannot teleport itself away when it is dangerously low on hit points or perform other such tricks, so this tactic introduces a great deal of risk.

I agree with Tiberius.

Most outsiders likely to gain access to Dimensional Anchor are creatures that are likely to want to use Dimensional Door or Teleport for tactical and strategic movement. There are a lot of downsides to using Dimensional Anchor in this way.

OTOH, in high power play, Holy Words will happen. If you need to avoid getting thrown back home, you don't have many options.

I would recommend casting Dimensional Anchor yourself and having a Quickened Dispel Magic handy. You can automatically bring down your own spell with no roll.
