dimension door and feather fall

First Post
There was some discussion in this week's session about how dimension door and feather fall interact. Specifically, are you allowed to dimension door into thin air, then cast feather fall to fall safely?

THis is only an issue because dimension door contains the following passage in its description: "After using this spell, you can’t take any other actions until your next turn." This is presumably to disallow ambushes or some other abuse. Feather fall, in turn, says: "You can cast this spell with an instant utterance, quickly enough to save yourself if you unexpectedly fall... You may even cast this spell when it isn’t your turn." So which wins out, here?

My feeling is that the intent of feather fall is so clear that I didn't see it not working in this situation. Has there been a ruling on that? Anyone want to throw out an opinion?

My feeling is the reverse. Dimension Door is very specific. You can't take any actions after you've cast it, including Swift, Immediate, or even Free Actions, until your next turn. Nothing in the description of Featherfall countermands this.

I've got to agree with Pendragon here. DD is pretty specific.

[hijack]I want to build a variant feather fall that works like the old version did, actually changing the target's weight, rather than just slowing their descent, and I want it to be a combat spell, with save or ranged touch roll

great for non-lethal combat in high winds :] [/hijack]

Fortunately, you don't fall until your turn comes around again, so it's a relatively moot point.

If I recall correctly, anyway.

I'm not the most obsessive about realism, not by a long shot, but that's just ridiculous!

Is it? We slice combat up into 6 second slices; if you can't act, at all, again until your next turn comes around, is it not reasonable that the reason you can't do so is because the DD takes effect at the very end of the 6 second slice? If so, you can't fall because there isn't any time to do so.

I know a sorcerer who used a similar tactic, except he used Teleport. He would teleport 1000 feet straight up, cast feather fall, then drop fireballs (or buff himself) as he descended.
