Devil's Sight + Darkness = Sneak Attacks?

First Post
By second level, a warlock has two invocations. These could be darkness, and devil's own sight. The first is as the spell, unlmited times per day. The second gives the ability to see in magical darkness. Assuming a few levels in rogue or ninja or whatever as well, will this combo give sneak attacks on all attacks against many creatures?

Not in 3.5. Darkness just grants concealment. Concealment itself negates a rogue's ability to perform sneak attacks, but it in now way causes those in it to lose their Dex bonus to AC. All it would mean is they wouldn't have the 20% miss chance.

Darkness
Evocation [Darkness]
Level: Brd 2, Clr 2, Sor/Wiz 2

Components: V, M/DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Object touched
Duration: 10 min./level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

This spell causes an object to radiate shadowy illumination out to a 20-foot radius. All creatures in the area gain concealment (20% miss chance). Even creatures that can normally see in such conditions (such as with darkvision or low-light vision) have the miss chance in an area shrouded in magical darkness.

Normal lights (torches, candles, lanterns, and so forth) are incapable of brightening the area, as are light spells of lower level. Higher level light spells are not affected by darkness.

If darkness is cast on a small object that is then placed inside or under a lightproof covering, the spell’s effect is blocked until the covering is removed.

Darkness counters or dispels any light spell of equal or lower spell level.

Arcane Material Component: A bit of bat fur and either a drop of pitch or a piece of coal.

If you're using 3.0 'dark' darkness, yep. Blinded opponent loses their dex bonus.

If you're using 3.5 'dim' darkness, then no. You'll have concealment versus them and they won't versus you. but they don't lose their dex bonus because they're not totally unable to see. Useful, but not you-don't-know-where-I-am, hooray-unlimited-sneak-attacks useful.

This combination can be used to gain you sneak attacks, but only about once per two rounds, and then only with some successful checks and depending upon your opponents' actions.

Basically, the darkness gives you Concealment, which means you're able to attempt Hide checks - but you can't hide while being observed. So you need to first make a Bluff check against your designated opponent as a standard action in order to create a distraction (do it as a Readied action in response to the first opponent who comes close enough to sneak attack, that way they can't act again before your next action). If your Bluff check succeeds, you can attempt a Hide check while they're distracted, and if that check succeeds, you can sneak atack them on your next action.

There are many effective ways to get really cheap sneak attacks all the time, but this isn't one ;)

(Before the flames come in - "All the time" is not meant literally.)
