Designing a Raven(Teen Titan)-esque Character

Ever since getting the fiendish codex and finding a lot of coolness in the Abyssal Heritor feats I've been trying to find a character concept to use them. Tonight I was thumbing through my Tome of Magic and I started having an interesting incling of an idea growing in the back of my mind.

The idea is influenced somewhat by the very few Teen Titan comics I've read at the library (mostly I read Marvel at home) and this page on her at Wikipedia.

The character is descended from a famous ancestor from millenia ago who was a key figure in helping fend off a demonic invasion force. The repulsion of the invasion was successful, but in the process of fending off this invasion the mighty ancestor was captured, tortured, raped, and cursed with the taint of evil. Even millennia later this mark remains on the family. The family recieves mixed reactions from everyone as what happened to the ancestor is common knowledge. People she's never met take one look at her, see her birthmark, and know almost everything about her family history - even intimate and embarrassing details. People are grateful for the lines help in repulsing the invasion and on this side are inclined to be pleasantly disposed towards the family. On the other hand the family line has demonic blood in its veins and is cursed with the taint of evil to such a degree that it is certain to be difficult to resist and not all members of the family through history have been able to resist it, so any individual member of the family is distrusted/shunned and generally makes people nervous, making the sign against evil behind their backs. It is painful for the character to see the powerful blend of awe, gratitude, fear, and mistrust in the eyes of everyone they meet. Good powers want them on their side or to destroy them to prevent them helping evil powers, and evil powers are the same, neither trusts them completely, but neither can afford to ignore the part of their birthright which plays to their side of the eternal conflict. The character is deeply ashamed of the distrust they engender in others, but cannot blame them for it, indeed they knows only too well how often their mistrust has almost been justified. She, and I am thinking of her as a she, already, she strikes me as such, though this may merely be Raven's influence on my imagination, I see as a Neutral Good Human, with the Ordered Chaos feat as her Human Bonus Feat, but she is constantly tortured with great temtations to be cruel and evil. This is why she gives little thought in general to Law or Chaos, she has no attention left for them after having to spend so much time and energy resisting the powerful evil within her and trying to stay true to the good. As with Raven this constant internal battle against evil means she must totally control her emotions or risk evil using them to manipulate her into forgetting herself and doing something unforgiveable, which is her greatest fear.

Classwise I see her as a Shadowcaster with Abyssal Heritor Feats in general, but I'm still trying to nail down the specifics of the idea.

This is mostly where I'd like to see what suggestions you have to offer. First off do you like the backstory OK? Second any ideas or advice on creating or advancing a character that fits this backstory well? Which mystery paths do you think would fit best? Abyssal Heritor Feats? Other random feats or character things which you think, sooner or later, might really go well flavor-wise with this character?

Thanks for all your help!!

Raven was always my favorite DC character. Well after Batman, Supes and the Flash (Barry Allen and of course Kid Flash/Adult Flash, Wally West.)

This has been going on for millenia and no one every thought to Remove Curse? (I've not seen the book this comes from, but in a D&D world that would seem the obvious thing to do.)

I would see this as something much more powerful than a Remove Curse spell could deal with - if you're familiar with the Wheel of Time I'm seeing the feat of Removing this Curse being something more along the lines of removing the taint from Saidin than a merely casting a Remove Curse spell. The evil is so ingrained in the line that the question is more that since they were inflicted with this are they good with evil parts or evil with good parts? No one can tell - half have been mighty crusaders for good, half evil destroyers/conquerers. It is so deeply ingrained that the question remains even if you could take it out what would be left? What happens if you take half of a person away?

Sounds REALLY COOL.

You may want to think about Warlock for rather obvious reasons, or even a Psion. Keep in mind what she can do with her powers -- telekenesis, walls of force, flight....these are nearly a perfect fit with a psion (perhaps going Wilder to represent the dark energy seething behind her), and the at-will nature of the powers and dark taint really reflect the warlock well.

I hope it will be really cool.

I like Psions in a game typically, but for some reason the flavor of them just doesn't quite seem to match this character to me.

I was thinking over Warlock, and it would be an excellent option. I do think a Shadowcaster from the Tome of Magic would work well too... they're both magical/mystical and have that chills in the spine uncertainty about whether or not they really could be good feeling very nicely. I'm not sure which would make the more interesting character though. What do you think?

If I did make her a Warlock, which Invocations do you think might fit her best? The one that is similar to the Shatter spell might be interesting...

What Mysteries might fit her best were she a Shadowcaster?

As for the Abyssal Heritor feats, I think Cloak of the Obyrith and Eyes of the Abyss both sound very interesting and flavorful. Others I'm contemplating are Demonic Skin, Heart of the Nabassu, Keeper of Forbidden Lore, Poison Talons, and Precognitive Visions. Maybe Poison Healer.

The feats from the Complete Arcane that endow a character with minor spell-like abilities, such as Spell Hand, also seem very fitting. Any other ideas?

mmm... allright, here's a short list of powers Raven is known to manifest, in the teen titans cartoon at least...

-Telekinesis (as little as Mage hand weight, as much as throwing a bus around)
-Teleportation, and group teleportation
-Interdimensional travel
-Assorted "shields", in wall from. Ranging in size from the size of a serving tray to a bubble large enough to completely encircle the titan's crash site, along wiht several hundred feet.
-Dark energy projectiles.
-Flight
-Possible illusions. (she has pulled people into her own darkness before, which is particularly nasty.)

Seems like you need either a psion, or a warlock. posibly both.

Mostly what I'm drawing from the Raven character is her care in self-control to keep her father, or in this case ancestor, from exerting influence over her actions and the sense of darkness and potential evil expressed in her abilities rather than the specific abilities that charachter exhibited - more of a flavor guideline than an effort to reproduce an exact replica.

A Psion to me doesn't have the right feel to me drawing more from simple internal strength rather than something potentially dark.

The warlock is a definite possibility with the Eldritch Blast, Fell Flight, and so forth.

The Shadowcaster (Tome of Magic) also seems strongly suited to the task drawing her abilities from the plane of Shadow, which is not inherently evil, though it's darkness leads common folk to assume that it is, and having similar abilities, including a Fundamental (I believe) which fires a missile of Shadow stuff.

I do like the idea of Gestalt, but not knowing what sort of campaign or DM I might be running this with I'd like to avoid it as it's highly likely to be a reason I can't actually use the character.
