Deities & Demigods: Bahamut

Deities & Demigods: Bahamut

I must say, I'm disappointed. I was expecting an article with more of Bahamut's in-world history (akin to Bane's), with his exarchs (like Bane's had Maglubyiet), and specially how the diverse humanoid races see the god, or if they all see him as a dragon, how they feel about worshipping a dragon. Instead we gat a page of how a Lawful Good deity's tenets can be turned into extremist views, and the rest of the article is filled with a sample extremist organization to be used as antagonists. No mention of an organization the PCs might join (and the benefits they'd get), no sample campaign arc for Bahamut-worshipping PCs.

I have to agree with Klaus. While this wasn't a bad article, it should have been a bestiary-esque article, allowing for a better god-related one.

This article actually reminds me of the Disciples of Vengeance article from last month, which had an extremist good organization that could be joined by PCs or used as antagonists. This article seems almost like a "leaders" section from that article, repurposed for a Bahamut theme.

Both articles were by Robert J. Schwalb.

Well, there was the White Lotus Academy from Dragon 374. I have plans to use them that don't involve the PCs killing any members of the faculty or student body.

The best laid plans...;)

The article was a bit blah, yeah. I agree with Klaus; we had the Bane article, why not something in the similar vein for Bahamut? Those are two gods that are at each other's throats constantly. The two articles together would be a big help for DMs AND players.

It sounds to me like the magazines are trying to offer alternative perspectives on these gods. IIRC, the Bane article emphasized that plenty of non-villainous, non-evil characters worshipped Bane or at least sometimes offered prayers to him. Here, we see that not every follower of Bahamut is an exemplar of good. But yeah, I would also like to see Bahamut's "normal" role fleshed out as well.

It was a good article for what it was. Unfortunately, it didn't offer much of anything about the actual in play use of Bahamut. It was only about how it could be an enemy. It would have been better to get 3 more pages about, you know, how this deity is worshipped and can be used in your game as, you know, one of the major deities in the game.

then give us this extremist view also.
