Deadlands D20 Resources

Anyone know of a good fan-site for Deadlands D20 stuff? I have seen a few Deadlands sites and they are great, but ultimately geared toward other game systems, while I am looking for good D20 stuff.

With the company changeover, it seems that they are once again going to change game systems. Not completely bad, as there will likely be some new stuff made, but it may take a while, because this new company will probably regurgitate the old 'core' stuff with the new system first.

I realize it isn't exactly what you're looking for, but if you can't find the Deadlands d20 stuff you might want to check out Sidewinder: Recoiled. It is d20 western, although more historically based. Certainly possible to take the historical western info and add in the Deadlands stuff. They have some free stuff you might find useful as well.

You can find Sidewinder at Dog House Rules

Company changeover? Deadlands hasn't gone anywhere - it's still with Pinnacle (although they were known for a while as Great White Games).

As for the new Deadlands, there will be 5 books. The first (core book) is out - it has the details of the setting, advances the timeline slightly, and ties up most of the loose threads from the first version (so I'm told). You do need the Savage Worlds rulebook to play though.

Also planned are 4 "plot point" books. Basically four different campaigns/adventure paths/whatever you want to call them, each of them dealing with one of the four horseman. The first of these will be out next year - not sure of the timetable for the rest of them.

That's pretty much all that's planned for the new edition.

(Oh, apart from also re-releasing Hell On Earth and Lost Colony - but they are still a few years away yet, after the 4 plot point books).

Whatever the semantics of who owns what or who produces whatever, there doesn't appear to be any D20 plans now - it has been switched to this Savage Worlds game system.

I am sure the other variations have their merits and may be very good, but I just don't have the inclination to learn new systems. D20 is by no means perfect, but at least I can anticipate how things operate from my familiarity of the D&D game, and find players with this same familiarity who might like a change of pace - but not a change of rules.

I am sure there must be some fan sites who like the D20 version!? And thanks Max, this looks promising as well.

I love the Deadlands. I bought all the d20 stuff, but frankly it wasn't that good at capturing the Deadlands feel.

If you want to use a d20 or OGL rule system to run a Deadlands game, Spycraft 2.0 would work really well. The ARcane background classes would be tough.

Your FLGS might have d20 Deadlands, Half-Price books might, the Pinnacle website store could have some. when in Doubt, e-bay is your friend.

Quite frankly, D20 Deadlands sucked bigtime, and I'm about the biggest Deadlands fan you'll find. It completely demolished the charm and quirkiness of the setting and make it into D&D in the Weird West. I tried to run it once, and gave up in disgust. You won't find many Deadlands D20 sites either- its regarded as a black sheep and best forgotten by Deadlands fans.

That said, all of the old sourcebooks for Deadlands are increbile- some of the best writing for any system, period- and they are great to use for background and ideas. Also, as good as the Classic Deadlands system is, the Savage Worlds system retains the charm of the setting, AND simplifies the game. I've taught non-games the SW system in under 20 minutes, and they loved it. My advice is at least download the free SW trial and look at it- SW is a great system, and has largely replaced D20 and D&D for us.

If you feel you have to stay with D20, then check out Sidewinder:Recoiled. It doesn't have any magic rules in it, but its a solid book for a D20 western game.
