While looking into the feasibility of doing a Modern pdf supplement that included psionics, I noticed for the first time that while the SRD includes the spells & psion powers from d20 Modern, the classes that actually use those abilities are absent. That is, the Telepath, Battle Mind, Mage, and Acolyte have been left out. From my understanding of how the d20 license works, that means third-party publishers that want to use magic or psionics in their products have to create their own classes, since the aforementioned advanced classes are not OGC. Which seems to me to defeat the purpose of including the FX spells & powers in SRD in the first place. Have I missed something? What's the point of forcing third-party publishers in coming up with their own generic arcane, divine, or psionic advanced classes, when the game itself already includes them?
While poking around WOTC's d20 Modern boards looking for an answer, I learned that there were plans to add the Mage and Acolyte to the SRD once Urban Arcana was released. Which hasn't happened yet, but I imagine the SRD folks are busy getting ready for the 3.5 release. Or perhaps those plans have been scrapped. Either way, that still keeps d20 publishers from fully supporting psionics in d20 Modern, and I don't understand why Wizards would want to do that. So, what have I missed?
