WotC D&D One Shot Days for in-store promotional play from WotC for the DMG release.

Play adventures and claim free digital dice!

Throughout November and December, WotC is promoting a campaign of 'One-Shot Days'--events at hobby stores where gamers can play through one-night quests (maybe they should be called One-Shot Nights?) using adventures from various D&D adventure anthologies such as Candlekeep Mysteries, Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, and Keys from the Golden Vault.

WotC will provide PDFs from the three adventure books for DMs to run in-store events and even swag for in-store purchases of those books. The adventures are:
  • "Joy of Extradimensional Spaces" from Candlekeep Mysteries
  • "Salted Legacy" from Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel
  • "Prisoner 13" from Keys from the Golden Vault

D&D One-Shot Days run from November 4 – December 31 and provide an opportunity to bring Dungeon Masters and eager players together for exciting, one-night quests using stories found in Candlekeep Mysteries, Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, and Keys from the Golden Vault.

It's interesting that the promotional is a set of digital DNDBeyond dice--local game stores might not be so keen to push people towards online platforms.

To help support the event, we'll be providing WPN stores with 10 codes redeemable on D&D Beyond for a Dracolich Dice Set! WPN Premium locations who achieve a designation on or before October 16 will receive 20 codes. Recipients of the code do not need a D&D Beyond subscription to redeem the reward, but they will need a D&D Beyond account.

I'm happy to see WotC support free content to support in-store play but I can't help thinking that the promotional item is a mistake.

@FitzTheRuke any input? What do you think?
Hmm... Strange idea. They've given us actual physical dice to give out for the PHB - and I was under the impression that we'd get another batch for the DMG game day.

I'm not fond of this idea, but I would absolutely welcome them selling us come codes that would give us a cut of their digital sales, or that we could bundle with physical books.

I'm not against us crossing over physical and digital offerings - because I'm not particularly threatened by digital. I don't think that it will ever 100% replace physical products - I don't think very many people actually want that.

But giving us stuff to give out that benefits them, and not us, in any measurable way, is not particularly smart.

If anyone is wondering why I have one already - it's because it's the same dice that they gave away for the PHB Game Day, which I ran. The one shown above is from that. I'm supposed to be getting more (I've been informed that they're on their way) which I will be giving out when I run the DMG Game Day in November.
