CSI Miami aka The Horatio Caine Show

Ghostwind

First Post
I told myself that I would give this show one more chance to keep my interest. Well, tonight's season premiere was so bad that I'm going to stick to Monday Night Football and then switch to Medium after the NFL season is over. The show really has become the Miami Vice of this generation. I like David Caruso as an actor, but even this is too much Caruso for me to stomach.

I wonder if his sunglasses are placed on a pedestal after the day's shooting is done?

What got me was at the beginning when the three other characters were arriving on scene. Each got a slow motion camera approach....three times for each of them.

The show was pretty good when it started, but it really has gotten bad.

I don't care about the stories. I don't care about the characters.

But my cousin is the Art Director on the show, so I have to watch it. :)

Tell him he's doing a good job, its the high point of the show

Huh. I kinda liked tonight's ep. Sure, it was heavy on Horatio, but so what? All the CSIs have had episodes focusing on one particular character.

Now, I'll admit that CSI:Miami isn't a great show. It's nowhere near the league of the original. But I still have fun with it.

CBS stamped out CSI spin-offs lightning quick, it is pretty clear they wanted to turn it into something to compete with the juggernaut Law & Order franchise, which is so huge it practically fuels entire cable networks. CBS had a hit crime drama with a unique angle, and jumped into action with it.

However, the CSI spinoffs seem a little more forced. I like Gary Sinise and enjoy him on CSI: New York, and the shows may have some flashy style and neat camerawork, but the quirky charm that made CSI fun seems a little forced in the spinoffs.

I didn't even know the premiere was tonight. I've been watching the new Tony Bourdain show on the Travel Channel, even though this was the 3rd time they've aired his visit to Mr. Sang's Island.

Interesting was Kitchen Confidential, which I have to guess is at least half way inspired by Bourdain or his book of the same name. I liked seeing Xander, that guy from those frat movies, Sydney's reporter friend, and Monk's former caretaker all in the same ep. Oh, and can't forget Devil summoner from 9th Gate. Is it sad I can remember where I've seen them but not names?

I like the original CSI and I like CSI: NY with it's grimmer tone, but geez, David Caruso's
Special Variety Brooding Badass Hour is really straining to keep my interest.

I actually like David Caruso. I think he used to be pretty cool. But, damn, time to reign
in the ego a bit. He's always been the main focus of the show, just like Grissom is on
Las Vegas, but it's getting silly. The rest of the cast is only there to make Horatio Caine
look more badass. Caine has become so badass that he looks like he's in a constant
state of constipation.

You too, huh?

I Enjoyed the premise, and It was okay to focus on Caine, but, MY GOD! He's TOO DARNED PERFECT! He's everywhere in the nick of time, he's going it alone, the other characters are frequently treated as window dressing, there's TOO MUCH CARUSO!

[sblock]
He was at the confessional and was conveniently on-scene in the nick of time.
He fortunately put a bullet in their gas tank so the team could trace them.
He was infinitely compassionate with the maid.
He was cool as ice when he learns there's a hit contract on him.
He gets to the hospital in the nick of time to save the woman - no call for assistance, he goes in person.
He HAS NO BACKUP at the hospital.

Maybe it's the writer's, or maybe it's Caruso's ego-vehicle, but He drowns out the show by being superhuman.

The other two CSI's are NOT like that. Taylor on NY is not superhuman, he's fallible, and the other characters have big roles to play. On CSI: Vegas, Grissom plays an important part, but does not drown out the other characters, and again, is even fallible.

Calleigh Duquesne, Eric Delko, and Ryan Wolfe, however, are Jan, Jace and Blip to Caine's Space Ghost.
