Given we were just told there will be item crafting rules in the new DMG coming out next month, I expect people are kind of holding their breath to see that system.

Yep, ask again in a month because I'm going to want to at least look at the new rules before I make a decision.

I like the crafting rules I came up with, naturally ;) Mechanically, there are different DC levels and time and equipment needs based on the rarity and type of item you're making, but I like how I did ingredients. There are also unexpected enchantments that happen if you roll a 1. My players enjoyed the flavor aspect of item crafting with those ingredients, and quests have been formed to find them. Not just monster parts (which I simplified by using a CR rating to equate to a rarity, but minerals and plants as well.

Sounds like there's a few of us working on crafting systems. I'm working on my own based around the old 3E magic item structure. But since DMG5.24 is gonna have magic item pricing and creation rules, I'm in a holding pattern till I see them
I unsurprisingly use Level Up as the core of my crafting system. Lots of stuff there about materials, time, tools, special components, and more!

The 2024 PHB has crafting rules for healing potions and scrolls.

Chris Perkins said the DMG will expand upon those. He was a little vague on the specifics, like will they cover every type/category of magic items (I assume yes).
