Crafting Celestial armor?

Hi all, I’m making a 7th level cleric, and I am taking the Craft Weapons & Armor feat at 6th. So the question is, can I make ‘Celestial Armor’ at level 7?

There isn’t anything in the description about minimum crafting level. But, it’s +3 armor, so normally you’d have to be 9th level.

But, the thing that is throwing me off is that the listed average caster level is 5th.

So, what does everyone think? Can he make it?

Well I would say the ansewer is, yes he can craft celestial armor. But no, he can't craft the set in the DMG. He could craft +2 celestial armor, I would say the caster level listed is for the flight power.

Looks like someone either dropped the ball (likely) or it is a special case since it is not technically an upgradeable/downgradeable item.

If I was dm? I'd let you do it. But according to the base rules you would have to be at least level 9 to make it, no matter what the CL says.

But then I also turned 'celestial' into an added armor bonus that costs a certain amount of gp.. so it could be put on any other primarily metal armor.

The listed caster level made sense in 3.0 when it was just +1 armor. (And, according to the book, all caster levels were fixed and served as minimum requirements on the creator.)

If 3.5 altered it in a way that's out-of-sync with other rules, then you may have to correct it yourself. Such as setting the caster level to 9 or higher.

The Caster Level (CL) listed in the Item description is not the requirement to craft. CL means the caster level of the spell used in crafting (in this case fly.) This is used to determine duration, saving throws, etc for the spell, or if caster level is needed for any other purpose such as resisting a dispel.

The pre-requisites are the items listed after CL. For Celestial Armor it is the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat, creator must be good, and the fly spell. Additionally, since celestial armor has a +3 enhancement bonus, the creator must be 9th level.

CL 5th refers to the power of the fly spell, and has nothing to do with crafting requirements.

The above two answers are correct. You have to be 9th level to create Celestial Armor, since it has a +3 bonus.

Yup, I agree.

This is interesting: the description in the SRD says that the level of the caster must be 3x the bonus, but the spells required - Greater Magic Weapon for arms and Magic Vestment for armour - require that the level of the caster is 4x the bonus.
