Cost to upgrade magical armor...

The rules on the cost involved to upgrade magical armor were in hot debate around my gaming table last night. I have chosen to submitt this question here to prove my point to a player. Here it is:

How much would it cost to get +1 leather armor upgraded with the shadow special ability?

I hope I am not made a fool...

The cost to "upgrade" magic items is always the same.

Take the cost of the new item, subtract the cost of the old items, and now you have the cost.

Example:

"Shadow" is a +1 bonus modifer for cost. Thus a +1 shadow leather armor is:

4,160 gp.

That's the cost of the new item.

+1 Leather is 1,160 gp.

That's teh cost of the old item.

4,160 - 1,260 = 3,000 gp

That's the cost of the "upgrade."

Amazingly simple, ain't it?

I see things a bit different.

I see it as you are applying in this case the Shadow ability to a +1 set of Armor.

1000 + 1000 + the cost to do it.

The way it is explained above to me would be adding shadow to +2 armor.

It's not a +2 set of armor it's a +1 with a enhancement.

The enhancement has a +1 market value, so the total cost would be the same as a +2 set of armor.

Assuming for the moment that you could have +10 armor, and that you could add enchantments to bring the cost equivalent to more than +10, the market price of +10 shadow armor would be the same as that of +11 armor, or 121,000 gp (not counting the price of the masterwork armor in the first place).

Upgrading from the +10 armor (market price 100,000 gp) would therefore cost 21,000 gp.
