D&D 5E COS - New character ideas

GainVanquish

First Post
Hi guys

So about to join a new game of COS. Im looking for inspiration for my new character something that would be fun. The characters i have played so far are:

5th Level Tiefling Monk (way of 4 elements)
4th Level Half Elf Ranger (Hunter)

I always seem to lean towards players that are no magically for some reason but am open to suggestions.#

You inspiration is much appreciated.

Sorry, I answered this question thinking you were looking for an antagonist at first....

Anyway, you got a ranger and a monk. You probably need someone who can heal and someone who can detect traps, unlock doors and other utility actions.

As far as 'fun', you could think about your background story and how it can tie into the campaign. I'm playing with just two players, so one of my players is taking the place of an important NPC in the story and is looking for her mentor. My other player is the reincarnation of a historical figure that is important to Strahd.

Any scholarly character who likes books would fit in well with this adventure. A sage/librarian/scholarly Arcane Trickster or Eldritch Knight would have fun.

A seeker of religious relics would have plenty of story connections in Barovia.

The Haunted One background option included in the CoS adventure is also a good way to give your character an affinity with the citizens of Barovia.

Ask your DM for any other background ideas so he can work your character into the lore.

Here are a couple other ideas I had when helping my players create characters:
Child of a Barovian shut-in. The character grew up locked inside a house inside Barovia and is just now able to leave his/her home/prison.
Heirloom: A silver medallion of a dragon's head that is always cold to the touch. Your family has handed this medallion down for generations, but it's origin and meaning have been lost.

A novice, slightly poorly statted, apprentice wizard who's NOT ready to become an adventurer.
One day he's experimenting with a spell beyond his capability. He get's something wrong. He ends up porting himself (& a very small patch of his immediate surroundings?) to a strange & haunted land.... Good Luck, NOW you're an adventurer!

Because of his incomplete training he suffers from the Wild Magic rules from the sorcerer.
