Construct maker

Hello, I'm making a construct crafting sorcerer, made for building golems and constructs of all sorts. The only problem is that he can't builod anything other than humonculi until about 10th level. Are there any useful constructs that one can build lower than say... 7th level?

P.S. are there any good sites where I can play a email, web based campaign with more focus on the RP than the stats?

Sounds fun. I love sorcerers, but for what you are doing I think you would be better off with a wizzard.
- better access to obscure spells that you wouldn't want for any reason other than for making golumns.
(it would really suck being a sorcerer and having to choose your first 5th level spell as something useless, just so you can make a certain construct. You are stuck with it for a long time.)
As a wizard, you can learn all the useless stuff just to make constructs, but when you go adventuring still have good spells prepared.

- Earlier access to high level spells

- Suits the character more. Wizards carefully crafting away, and studing how to make the 'perfect construct'.

- access to many more feats. (there are a few required to make good constructs)

back to your question: "Are there any useful constructs that one can build lower than say... 7th level?"
Sorry, no idea.

Good luck. It does sound like a fun character to play.

yup

Yeah, your right about the WIZ/SCR thing but either way, he's still useless without a golem.
I'm thinking I'll give him Mechanis Gear Armor +10 armor bonus no dex bonus. Now you ask...
But he can't cast? Then I take the spellsword prestige class and just sit on top of my iron golem casting spells and shooting my +2 flaming burst, exploding, repeating crossbow............
Wow... now I realize what overthinking is....... Still need lower level constructs...

sick

that's awsome! I'm glad you told me about that, it helps a lot. I love the class features and special abilities. But that still doesn't help with smaller constructs.

There's a prestige class in Complete Arcane that lets you build constructs - Effigy Master I think.
Bingo. The PrC isn't all that, but the effigy template (CArc 151) is the way to go for a construct maker. You need the Craft Construct feat. A wizard can get it at level 6 and a sorcerer can get it at level 9. (With the PrC a sorcerer can start crafting at level 8.)

I was under the impression that the class allows you to build things without the craft skill requirements and you can also do it with anything (any size). For example the demo-character has a lion.

Here is the problem, you are not worthless without a golem, D&D is a team game. Another player will be the one doing the melee damage and keeping the monsters from getting to you, not your "pet". If a caster could make efficent constructs that take the place of the fighter, that class would be far too strong.

Yes, you do have a very good point, and teamwork is what I'm going for. I'm more for RP than stats. But what my character is really supposed to be is just a way to play as the golem with less level adjustment. So my actual golem will be a puppet, but I will poor all of my XP and Gold into him so my actual wizard is just a very hard to hit figure head on the golems shoulder.

Probably a stupid question.... but how early could, say, an Artificer or a Warlock start crafting golems? Fake the spells via UMD for the crafting pre-requisites, then you just need the appropriet feats.....
