Cleric of Laduguer, positive or negative energy spontaneous casting?

Buoyance

First Post
I was thinking about playing a cleric of Laduguer for an upcoming campaign, and I was looking for opinions on do you think Laduguer's priest should channel positive or negative energy.

I've started to lean toward positive because even though he is an evil power his domains include craft, protection, etc which would give him strong ties to positive energy. That and he is considered an exile from the dwarf pantheon which kinda implies he was once good or at least neutral.

Any interpretations would help thanks.

In general, it's the cleric's alignment, not the deity's, that answers this question.

I'd say generally negative, though LN clerics could "swing either way" as it were. Or not; note that all of St. Cuthbert's clerics channel positive, even if they're not good.

You don't get a choice if the deity is Good align or Evil aligned, REGARDLESS of cleric alignment.

Since Laduguer is evil, ALL his clerics channel negative energy.

PHB, page 32, under "Spontaneous Casting" reads:

{...}
An evil cleric (or a neutral cleric of an evil deity), on the other hand, can't convert prepared spells to cure spells but can convert them to inflict spells (an inflict spell is one with "inflict" in the title). Such clerics are especially proficient at wielding negative energy.
A cleric who is neither good nor evil and whose deity is neither good nor evil can convert spells either to cure spells or to inflict spells (player's choice). depending on wether the cleric is more proficient at wielding positive or negatie energy.
{...}

So as you can see, neutrally-aligned or not, a cleric of LAduguer (an Evil deity) must channel negative energy, period.

Sorry. No hoice involved for you; to get a choice, both the cleric and the deity must be neutral-aligned.

With your DM's approval, you could adapt the Ravenloft ruling that nonevil clerics of evil deities can choose to specialize in positive energy.
