It walks bipedally but its legs are exceptionally short, so its long slim body is low to the ground. It resembles a crocodile more than a conventional carnivorous dinosaur, with its deep paddle-shaped tail and long, narrow spike-toothed jaws. The forelimbs are fairly large with three-fingered hands and large grasping claws. Spinosaurus is semiaquatic, spending at least as much time in water as on land. This dinosaur is an opportunistic predator that hunts fish, juvenile dinosaurs and even pterosaurs. Its lightweight build and narrow jaws make it ill-equipped for preying upon big creatures, but its Gargantuan size means there are many victims small enough for it to hunt. A typical adult Spinosaurus has a total length of around 50 feet and weighs between 8 and 10 tons. Combat A Spinosaurus seeks to grab hold of an opponent and tear it apart with their claws and teeth. They usually hunt prey smaller than themselves, and often use their stunning tail sweeps against groups of such creatures. Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a Spinosaurus must hit with a claw or bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. Stunning Tail (Ex): If a creature up to Large size (Huge for a Colossal Spinosaurus) is hit by a tail-slap it must succeed at a DC 25 Fortitude save or be stunned for 1d6 rounds. A stunned victim can make a DC 20 Fortitude save on their initiative each round, success negates the stun. The save DCs are Strength-based and include a –10 racial penalty. Skills: A Spinosaurus has a +4 racial bonus on Hide, Listen, Spot and Survival checks. *Its racial bonus to Hide increases to +12 when it is in undergrowth or submerged in water. A Spinosaurus has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line. Design Notes Reconstructions of Spinosaurus have changed greatly in recent years as new research indicates a far more crocodile-like build, not the fast-running creature of my original Spinosaurus conversion. This new version reflects current palaeontology (although there's no guarantee it's not going to become outdated too!) with the dinosaur as an efficient swimmer whose stumpy hind legs mean it's fairly slow on land. I also weaponized the tail as I threatened to in my previous Spinosaurus conversion's Design Notes.
