Castle Staff?

I could have sworn I posted this before months ago and got no responses - so I went searching for it to bump and ask again - but no dice! Perhaps it happened during the Great Crash of '06.

Anyway,

I am looking for a good general source that lists the roles/titles of the kinds of servants, officers and court officials you'd find in medieval castle (though fantasy sources are fine, too) - even if it is just an example of ean existing one I can lift the roles/titles from and get ideas to make up a few more.

And please, I am looking for FREE sources - something online - not some book or PDF to buy. I tried googling and wikipedia - but my "fu" must be weak. . .

Thanks in advance.

It's a slightly different time period than you're looking for, but if this is for your new Second Son of a Second Son campaign, try Life in Elizabethan England: A Compendium of Common Knowledge. Specifically...

Household Management
and
Staffing a Great Household

Follow the links at the bottom of the pages for other interesting tidbits.

In a fantasy castle there should crack team of clerics and wizards. It consists of individually decorated room (to help teleportation) with the team of clerics and wizards on standby. That way the adventurer can in the middle of combat teleport there and get all the healing and buffs in one round and teleport back into the action.

In the magical storeroom there's all the situational magic items that aren't constantly needed, a ring gate and an intelligent servant ("sword caddy"). That way the adventurer can anytime he pleases stick his hand into his ring gate (umm .. that sounds dirty), show a predetermined hand sign, and then the sword caddy puts the desired item into his hand.

So those are my suggestions:

ER team
Sword caddy

Power of Faerun details the staff of a small realm which would double as the staff of a ruling castle. I'm pretty sure it also has a map of the same castle.

The old TSR Castle Guide mentions castle staff as well as a host of other castle-related information. It's available for download from wizards:

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/CASTLE.ZIP

i must respectfully second that nomination. :)

the nice part is, that since it's mostly flavor and non-edition-specific crunch, it should require very little conversion work to use it in any edition of D&D as you like. :)
