Can't be flanked - quickest route?

The Souljourner

First Post
I'm designing a duelist, and I want him to have Uncanny Dodge (can't be flanked). However, this ability seems to be pretty tough to get... you need like 6th level rogue to do it.. and I just don't know that I can afford to spend those levels there.

Anyone know of a prestige class that can get it... or something similar that doesn't take 6 levels of rogue (or 5 of barbarian)

Here's the character as I have him worked out now (levels in order):

Interestingly enough, a dwarf could take this route and not get any XP penalties... now there's a funny thought, a dwarven duelist :)

Monk 1
Fighter 1-4
Monk 2
Ranger 1
Ninja of the Crescent Moon 1-3
Duelist 1-10

Of course NotCM is optional, and doesn't need to be where it is, but it's kinda handy. Basically this is an exercise in min-maxing... trying to get the most stats added to my AC :) Any suggestions for improvements would be most appreciated.

I don't think anyone gets it faster than the Barbarian.

And you cannot get back to Monk, if you train in another class in between, unless you are using some less harsh restrictions as presented in FRCS and OA.

Aww crap, I forgot about that. I hate that rule :) I guess I'll have to put the other level of monk up with the first. How annoying... that's going to make getting the skillpoints right a lot more difficult. Oh well.

Barbarian is the best you can do it huh? Damn. Sounds like I'm probably not going to be able to do it then, since barbarian doesn't really fit this guy... especially not 5 levels..... Oh well. I was hoping there was a prestige class I overlooked.

There's a feat called "Eyes In the Back Of Your Head" that negates the flanking bonus and I believe the flanking ability as far as sneak attacks & AoOs. I haven't looked in it in a while, but I remember it exists. Don't remember the reqs, but it probably uses Expertise or Mobility as a base. It'll cost a feat, but that might do the trick.

For what it is worth, the Brigand and Infiltrator alternate classes from Kingdoms of Kalamar Player's Guide (with some seal of approval from WOTC) both have Uncanny Dodge as an ability eventually, and both work well with a Duelist.

This feat only takes away the +2 bonus to hit, that flankers normally get. Sneak attacks and AoOs aren't affected at all.

The feat can be found in Sword and Fist. Requires +3 BaB and 19+ wisdom.

If you were not planning a monk/duelist, the quickest way to stop the sneak attacks would be an armor of fortification, or a spell that gives concealment. A Warning Sword could avoid the flatfooted AC-loss as well.
