Can oil be used as a grenade weapon to 'oil' someone?

Would it be possible to use a oil flask as a grenade weapon, to see if the oil would hit a creature *or possibly a square next to them* to then light flames upon?

e.g. 2 party members throw oil flasks at Troll. 1 hits, other deviates 5 ft away to the right. now two party members throw alchemists fire flasks, both miss but are within 5 ft of the troll meaning he would take splash damage. Also one lands in the oil square so it ignites *to burn for 2 rounds*. Would the troll start to burn as it took 1 fire damage, and the oil with which covers most of it start to flame?

Thanks ahead

Out of curiosity, and not meaning to be rude - is there any reason you use asterisks instead of parentheses for your parenthetical comments?

Asterisks in a text medium traditionally represent either *emphasis* - as in bold text - or actions.

*Hyper demonstrates the latter*

I keep wondering why you're shouting in the middle of your sentences... :)

actually, i originally started using asterick's as adjetives
e.g. i wish to express that i sighed :P so i say *sigh* which to most of my friends implys what i do.

I'll try to refrain from using ' * ' from now on, so as not to confuse :P.

Still, back to topic, any ideas? rules?

Edit: btw, everyone, i'm an idiot...thought i'd mention that to save a little shame

Yes, that's the second common usage I posted above :) (Although that's not what adjective means.)

i meant more to a point of can a target be 'oiled' Even if they are not 'lighted' afterwards...if there a time limit within that you'd be able to effectivly light them? would thye suffer some sort of penalties? (such as for slipperyness) but possibly bonuses for something like move silently, if wearing heavy armour :P?

I wouldn't give any bonuses to move silently for characters in heavy armor, or if I did, I would give them an equal penalty on their armor class - the straps tend to slide around instead of staying on firm. But then if I did that, they would all just throw oil at the BBEG, and I would be a hypocrite to not give him the armor penalty. So in short, no bonus. If you want to make your armor quiet, try sewing silk padding around every individual plate. Of course, every time the character gets hit, there goes the bonus...

As for the time limit, I would say that there's no firm limit. However, having had gasoline spray on me, I would say that the target is easily flammable for maybe 10 minutes max, assuming he's active and moving around but not spending any effort getting himself clean. Someone lying completely still in a dark, cool room might stay flammable for a couple hours. I would say that if the target is spending full-round actions to protect themselves (wiping oil out of their hair, removing clothes, etc) then it would just take a few rounds to make them safe. Of course, compared to the lousy damage that burning oil does, most characters and monsters won't really care.

hmm....i like that...

The idea is, i simply know theres a troll character coming up :$ my DM slipped up and never noticed he told me, and i didn't have the kindness to tell him...instead i decided to find out ways to possibly battle it effectively.

The reason for fire and oil...regenerate wouldn't work
