Can elves trance in armor?

Tcheb

First Post
Don't know if this is has already been covered here, but it came up last night during my game, and we couldn't find anything on it in the books.

Everyone else needs to be relaxed (comfy clothes) to rest, why not elves?

Also, how aware of their surroundings are elves when they're trancing?

Anyone have thoughts or an official answer?

Thanks.

My thoughts? Elves sleep. I don't like "trancing" it leaves too many questions unanswered, as you noted.

I don't know of official rulings, I'm sorry. But I would guess that the elven trance is almost identical to normal sleeping.

Tcheb, i don't know if there's an 'official' answer. i'm playing in two games, and the DMs handle it differently in each:

1) elves trance and dream as described in the PH. this is counted as sleeping where armor is concerned (trance in -5 armor check or greater armor, you're fatigued the next day), and the PC is unaware of their surrounding (deep meditation)

2) elves sleep like everyone else

(and everyone doesn't have to sleep in comfy clothes, the fatigue penalty only affects chain, splint, banded, half- and full plate armors)

Mr Fidgit - where in the PHB is that -5 thing talked about? Sounds like a good rule though. I think that's what I'll use. Thanks!

For some reason, when I saw the title of this thread, my mind read "prance" rather than "trance." My initial answer was, "no."

Maybe I've been reading Wulf's story too often. Oh well.

What kind of evil rat-bastard DM would deny elves the ability to prance in armor?
