Called or returning property on a falchion?

Hi all, I have a 3.5 Paladin/Kensai (soon to be Paladin/Kensai/Anointed Knight) who, for obvious reasons, really doesn't want to lose his ancestral relic/signature weapon falchion. Two enchantments seem particularly useful for this purpose, the Called and Returning properties. I know the Called property is only applicable to armor and shields, and Returning really only works on thrown weapons. I'm also aware the MIC has a Crystal of Return, the lesser and greater versions of which allow you to call your weapon from up to 30 ft. away. However, it's pretty useless if someone removes the crystal, holds the weapon, or takes it more than 30 feet away from me.

Given the ancestral relic feat will eventually allow me to imbue the weapon with the power equivalent of a 380,000 gp item, I am wondering if I could get away with adding something like Called or a non-throwing Returning property to the blade as an relic-level abiltiy? What would you guys rule on something like this? I'm looking for some good rationalization to convince my DM with. :)

Thanks in advance,
Vor

Rind of Arming
When you use it your armor and any weapon in hand get removed, shrunk and stored within the ring as a standard action. A second use of the ring returns armor and weapons to you and properly equips it upon you.

I personally think the rationalization you've already given is adequate. Your character's weapon is an extension of your person. In fact, you would probably more concerned about losing your weapon than your own child. I know that if I were DMing I would allow you to make an adjustment of some sort to the called property to allow you imbue your weapon with it.

Couple months late but today I was looking for much the same enchantment - my problem (aside from not wanting to lose my own ancestral weapon) is what if your items are stolen?

I am under the impression our group DM is looking at having us kidnapped and stripped of our gear - yes this is player knowledge vs. character knowledge stuff, but it does have me worried and curious what could be done to circumvent this as only the group Monk has really nothing to fear...

So on that note, rings, gloves of storing and the like aren't valid options. I believe the Calling enchantment for armor/shields will take care of that problem (and as an added benefit makes perfect sense for my fullplate pally), but what to do about his bastardsword!?!

As mentioned, the returning crystal is null after 30'...

Anyone got any other fixes or opinions?
*also I'm not a Kensai or Anointed Knight, it's just his own personal family relic weapon, while very important to him, it's not 'as' significant as those classes weapons...

Then make the weapon a Throwing weapon to create a loophole. :D

Truth be told, you're actually looking for a replica of Wulfgar's hammer, otherwise known as Aegis-fang. The wiki article linked has stats for it, though this one has different ones, along with a means to craft it yourself. Nice, right? Just modify for your needs and you're ready. ;)
